Ronaldo clarifies ending career with more Balon D’or than Messi Claims

The 65th annual ceremony of the Ballon d’Or took place on Monday, November 29th with Lionel Messi emerging as the 2021 winner of the prestigious football award.

Messi has now won the award for a record seven times, two times more than his rival Ronaldo.

Earlier, a French journalist, Pascal Ferre, had claimed Ronaldo’s ambition is to win more Balon D’or than Messi.

The Man United star has refuted the claims, via a post done on his social media pages, saying they are lies.

“(Pascal) Ferre lied. …it is unacceptable that the person responsible for awarding such a prestigious prize could lie in this way. It’s absolute disrespect for someone who has always respected France Football and the Ballon d’Or. Today he lied again by justifying my absence from the Gala with an alleged quarantine that has no reason to exist,” Ronaldo wrote.

I am never against anyone

Ronaldo, in further clarification, said that he likes to congratulate those who win as he is never against anyone.

“I always win for myself and for the clubs I represent, win for myself and for those who love me. I don’t win against anyone,” the post read further.

To the surprise of many, the Portuguese start added that his biggest ambition as a player is to “win national and international titles for the clubs I represent and for the national team in my country.”

“The biggest ambition of my career is to be a good example for all those who are or want to be professional footballers. The biggest ambition of my career is to leave my name written in golden letters in the history of world football,” Ronaldo wrote.

What did Pascal Ferre say?

The France Football editor said in an interview last week that Cristiano told him of his desire to be crowned the world’s best footballer more times than Argentinian and PSG star- Messi.
