Top Radio Presenter Jalango Lands a State Job

Radio presenter and comedian Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o on Tuesday 25th announced via his social media page that he will be hosting the forthcoming Madaraka Day set to take part in the lakeside city of Kisumu County.

This will be the first time the Madaraka holiday celebrations will be hosted in Kisumu county since Kenya gained independence in 1963 and none other than Jalang’o will be the host emcee.

“Sealed and confirmed! Madaraka day official Host! Is HEAVY J BABA! see you in Kisumu! Thanks to a father and a mentor in protocols and High End events! Bw. Peter Wanjohi” Jalang’o’s Instagram page read.

The lineup for the event was announced by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) and it includes some celebrated legendary artists like Suzanne Owiyo, Dr Osito Kale, Dola Kabarry and other Luo artists. Others that will entertain the President and other dignitaries include Apesi Mnyama Mkali, Musa Jakadala, Freddy Jakodongo, Koffi Mac Adory and Aluoch Pamba.

Jomo Kemyatta Stadium

The event will take place at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu County and only 3,000 people will be allowed due to covid-19 protocols.

Other than the stadium where the main event will take place, the County Government of Kisumu has set two other alternative grounds at the Raila Kirembe grounds and Owuor grounds in Kibos which will be able to host 12,000 people each fitted with big screens to enable them to follow the event live as it happens. The rest of Kenyans will follow the events virtually.

This is not the first time Jalango will be hosting a high-end event. It can be remembered that he was the official emcee of the event when President Barrack Obama came to Kenya in 2018. The event took place in Alego Kogelo Siaya County.

This year’s Madaraka day will be the 58th and Nyanza is set to reap big after President Kenyatta toured the region with goodies. This week, the head of the state lead the commissioning of several projects including the Uhuru business park, Kisumu Port, Jomo Kenyatta Sports Complex, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports complex, Inland container depot at Kibos and 400kv power project by Ketraco among others.
